Over the previous decade, Hong Kong artist Un Cheng has made summary self-portraits and introspective landscapes that share the theme of escapism. Her newest solo exhibition sees her turning her gaze in direction of Europe – maybe seeing journey as the final word escape – however these new work aren’t nearly getting away.
After spending October to December 2024 in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Poland, she returned to Hong Kong, the place she mirrored upon her journey and made discoveries about how she connects with the world round her.
Comprising 21 new oil works created in 2025, “Bed room Work” marks Cheng’s fourth solo exhibition with Blindspot Gallery, positioned in Hong Kong’s Wong Chuk Cling neighbourhood. Cheng says that, like her earlier reveals, it’s “a visible diary about intimacy”, and in contrast to her older works, is “form of like a self-healing journal”.
She provides, “This exhibition is in between. My work are finally depictions of my real-life experiences. As I paint self-portraits but in addition the issues I see exterior, I’m projecting my emotions onto the surroundings.”

True to the title, which references bed room music – a mode of home-made lo-fi music usually accompanied by emotional and intimate lyrics – the exhibition begins with two work of Cheng’s mattress titled The Closing Puff and Silver Spoon, Child Quilt, Meows and Again & Forth.
