Golden Globes Voters Step on But One other Rake

Nobody expects “Avatar: Hearth and Ash” to stomach flop at theaters nationwide.

The primary two “Avatar” movies raced to the highest of the all-time field workplace chart. Director James Cameron has an unerring knack for tales we’ll pay good cash to see, together with the primary two “Terminator” movies, “Aliens,” “True Lies” and “Titanic.”

But we don’t know for positive how a lot cash the third movie within the “Avatar” sequence will really make. And, given the movie’s gargantuan funds, it’s unclear if the movie will make a revenue when the mud settles.

Inform that to Golden Globe voters.

The not-so-august physique has taken its justifiable share of lumps over the many years, typically of the self-inflicted selection.

Pia Zadora, anybody?

Now, with this morning’s nominations for 2025, the physique is ready to honor a movie for one thing that hasn’t occurred but.

This 12 months marks the debut of a brand new Golden Globes class: “Greatest Cinematic or Field Workplace Achievement”

And the nominees are:

  • “F1”
  • “Sinners”
  • “Weapons”
  • “Depraved: For Good”
  • “Zootopia”
  • “Mission: Not possible – The Closing Reckoning”
  • “Kpop Demon Hunters”
  • “Avatar: Hearth & Ash.”

The issue? Two, really.

First, “KPop Demon Hunters” made lower than $25 million in international ticket gross sales. It was primarily a Netflix launch, and a large one at that.

And, after all, “Hearth and Ash” hasn’t made a single penny … but. The movie hits theaters Dec. 19.

Did voters hop in Doc Brown’s time machine, go to 2026 and return in time to submit their votes?

Embarrassing.

Much less embarrassing however totally anticipated? “The Joe Rogan Expertise,” thought-about the most important podcast of the trendy period, acquired shut out from one other new Globes class – Greatest Podcast.

The same old suspects acquired nominations:

  • “Armchair Skilled with Dax Shepard”
  • “Name Her Daddy”
  • “Good Dangle with Amy Poehler”
  • “The Mel Robbins Podcast”
  • “Smartless”
  • “Up First” / NPR

The nominees aren’t aggressively political, though a number of clearly lean to the Left.

As soon as once more, center-Proper voices needn’t apply to a Hollywood awards gala.
