Berlinale Retrospective 2025: “Wild, Bizarre, Bloody. German Style Movies of the 70s”

The Retrospective of the seventy fifth Berlin Worldwide Movie Pageant will probably be “Wild, Bizarre, Bloody”: the offbeat and the wacky, combine it up with motion, thrills, and graphic visuals in 15 chosen style movies from East and West Germany made within the Nineteen Seventies.

Dr. Rainer Rother, head of the Retrospective and Creative Director of the Deutsche Kinemathek, says: “A longstanding preconception says that Germans can’t do style. However in truth, early German cinema laid a groundwork that was influential within the worldwide improvement of fantasy and science fiction moviemaking. Influenced by the wave of exploitation movies of the period, the Nineteen Seventies are a treasure trove of offbeat films that adopted new narrative and aesthetic paths.
